Rally the Troups

Well, many of you have read Burt's blog and know a little about the plumbing issues at the church. What you may not know is how bad the situation really was. After working for four hours, Plumbing 911 had the gall to charge us $3100. After having to deal with this company, Scott finally told them to just leave. What they left was a mess. They left one pipe open.. so mud, dirt and rocks got in. This in turn clogged the line. This in turn caused the toilets and water fountains to not work. (this was the problem last Sunday) Now we have at least 3 toilets and 2 sinks that are broken.

What gripes me the most is how the owner handled the entire situation. He actually doesn't care. Burt got other estimates for the work Plumbing 911 did: the highest was $1000. When confronted with this, the owner actually verbalized that he did not care.

Why should this bother you?
1. It was our tithes that he stole.
2. If he'll do this to a church, what do you think he'll do to ordinary folks?
3. It was wrong.

What can you do about it?
Call Plumbing 911 at 699-2666. Let them know what you think. And then if you need a plumber, don't call Plumbing 911. Call someone who cares.

If you actually take the time to call, please leave me a comment.

we didn't actually get a competitive bid to do the same work what 911 did - we did get bids on doing TWICE or TRIPLE the work and the bid was around $1600 - doesn't that bless your heart!

Forgive me if I am wrong but since Burt called the guy already, we have already paid the money, and the fact that we are a missional church that preaches grace, shouldnt we leave it at that? Calling and harrassing the guy only puts a black mark on us and the kingdom that we are trying to grow. I am not saying that we should just lay down over every injustice, just that our displeasure has been made known already. In fact, isnt most of Acts a lesson in what to do with people who treat the church like this? There will be a punishment for what he did, it just might not come when we want it, how we want it, and we may never know about it at all.

For the record, I have screamed at McDonalds, Taco Bell, Countrywide Mortgage, Compass Bank, General Motors Co, Co-workers, Shades Valley High School, Jefferson County School System, UAB, Birmingham Water Works, and numerouse referees in high school football games; each of which did me wrong, but the greater wrong was the manner in which I addressed people who I really needed to show the kingdom to.

Lets rally around the gospel of grace for these guys and let it be that.

This could be the beginning of a great Derek Webb song!

He will get his in the end, but I don't mind trying to break him while we wait!
There is more unsaid than can be published, suffice it to say, he fully intended to stroke us!

No, it was God's money that he used in the way that he saw fit. We had a similar situation with a member in the church. Was the price paid worth it to regain her? Could $3100 be an acceptable cost to potentially gain a brother?

2. If he'll do this to a church, what do you think he'll do to ordinary folks?

Speaking from experience in this industry, churches tend to be the WORST in terms of paying a bill, trying to get something done for nothing, and sometimes just dont pay at all. I know that we do not do this, but other churches have ruined the reputation for us all. There have been plenty of times when I wanted to triple charge a church just to make sure that I got paid something. It isnt right, but it is the reality of church reputation in the service industry.

Yup, and God will get him for it. You cant mess with Jesus' bride and expect to get away with it. We may just never get to see the justice done the way that we want.

I highly reccomend Johns Plumbing. The owner goes to my Church and is a great guy. They just did some work for us and last year when were having a very rough time they did some work and we never saw a bill.
God is good!

Sorry about the problems and crooked crooked people.
